Goddess Durga was born on earth as “Sati” who was daughter of king Daksha. Sati was devotee of Lord Shiva and from very beginning she worship to Mahadev or Lord Shiva when her father king Daksha was hated Lord Shiva.

After getting mature Sati married to Mahadev and according to Hindu religion she shifted to her husband’s home. Her father was angry with her and decided not to allow them to enter his place. He arranged a special “Yagna” and invited devotees from all Universe except Mahadev.

When Sati Mata discover that they were not invited in her father’s occasion, she was surprised and thought some how he forgot to invite them and she decided to attend the program.

She arrived her father’s home to attend the Yagna. But her father was so angry to see her, he started to insult Mahadev and abused him furiously.

Mata Sati tried to culm her father but not succeeded. But she did not tolerate the insult of Mahadev also and she was fainted and died on the spot. That incident made a big chaos on the place.

When Mahadev realized that Mata Sati was no more, he was total out of his tolerance and “Tandav” started. He pulled the body of Sati and carried on his shoulder, started “Tandav” through the Universe.

Then to save the Universe from destruction and to help Mahadev to overcome from his grief, Lord Vishnu cut the body of Sati into 52 pieces with his “Sudarshan Chakra”.
