The Statue Of Unity is located in Gujrat near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia colony, created to pay homage in the memory of Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel, who was first Deputi Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India.

Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel was well known as “Iron Man” of India. He was born on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat and died on 15 December 1950 in Bombay (Mumbai).

He was an Barrister, Indian Lawyer, influential freedom fighter and also very close to Mahatma Gandhi. He was actively involved in Gandhiji’s Dandi Salt Merch. He was so influenced by Gandhiji that he changed his life style totally with food habit and started to wear white dhoti instead of coat pant.

Ballabh bhai Patel adhered to Gandhiji’s Satyagraha and struggle against British to support Indian freedom fighters. He quit Gujrat Club, dressed white like an Indian and ate in Indian Manner also.

People across India recognized his unparalleled leadership when Gandhiji’s teaching came in to reality and farmers got escaped from taxes for Bardoli Satyagraha in Gujarat in 1928.

He got “Sardar” titled in Gujarat which means “Chief of the leader” in other states. The Bardoli Satyagraha in Gujarat considered to be the major participation of Civil Disobedience and revamp Indian Independence Movement.

In 1940 at the time of World War II, Sardar Patel was aggressively lead Gandhiji’s “Quit India” movement. Between 1930 to 1945 he was arrested more than 10 times and each time after release, he gave highly motivational speech to the “British Quit India” movement to charge up freedom fighters without bothering his poor health.

In his emotional speeches he addressed country men to participate in civil disobedience, refuse to pay taxes and mass protest with shut down of all civil services and force to British to quit India Immediately. he favored an all-out-rebellion would force to realize British that they can no longer continue colonial rule in India and the power would shift to Indians ASAP.

Finally British left India in 1947 and also left India, Pakistan and 562 princely states in the territory colonized for 200 years by them. All princely states were given options to join Union Of India, Pakistan or remaining independent.

Sardar Patel not only convinced 559 out of 562 states to join Union Of India but that stupendous task successfully done by him without shedding a drop of blood. Only in Junagarh he forced by army to include it In Union Of India.

Other Two states Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad were not agreed to join Union Of India, also decided to attack against India. Sardar Patel Launched operation “Polo” to forcefully securing and integrating Hyderabad in to the Union Of India in just 4 days.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Said at the inauguration of the Statue Of Unity, “There were many who used to think that a diverse country like India can never remain united. It will fall apart. But Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel showed how it is done. We should learn how to grow by strength to strength, how to always stay united.”

Narendra Modi also added,”He did something that was also unparalleled, from Kutch to Kohima, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Sardar Patel united the country. It is because of him we can travel to all the great sites and meet the great people of all states within India without a Visa.”

Statue Of Unity Guide

Statue Of Unity was inaugurated on 31 October 2018 By PM Narendra Modi. It is located on Gujarat, near Sardar Sarovar Dam. It became most important tourist attraction in Gujarat.

People can spend 2-3 hours for seeing only Statue Of Unity monument and closer surrounding areas. But it is not enough to see only the statue. It will take 2-3 days to explore the total enjoyment on various activities, laser show in the evening, helicopter ride, boat ride, Sardar Sarovar Dam peak and many more.

Entry for Statue Of Unity is open from 8 am to 6 pm every Tuesday to Sunday. Monday will remain closed.

There are four types of tickets available at the counter and ticket booking website. People can choose from them according to their choice.

Places To See Near Statue Of Unity

There are many important tourist places near Statue Of Unity.

Helicopter Ride : one of the most popular attraction which is just 2.5 km from the statue. Tourists can take a view from top to the Statue Of Unity with 10 minutes helicopter ride. It will cost Rs. 2900 per person and 5-7 people can visit at a time.

Boating Ride : A 45 minutes boating in Narmada around Statue Of Unity will cost Rs. 413 per head.

River Front Cycling : Cycling along the Narmada river with Statue Of Unity Background and crossing water falls, forests, around mountains are excusive experience. That will cost just Rs.250 per head for 2 hours, Rs.400 per 2 persons for 2 hours.

Valley Of Flowers : Ticket will be included with Statue Of Unity Ticket. A beautiful garden beside Narmada river and Statue of Unity in the background. It is a wonderful belt of multi color blooming flowers in the lap of mountain and river Narmada.

Another most popular show is Projection Mapping Show which is started at 7pm and Unity Glow Garden comes in to alive. This is a laser show projected on the body of Statue with music in background. The music and light show cost just Rs. 100 for adult and Rs, 50 for children.
